Perry – James (Jimmy) Wallace Jones, son of the late Ernest W. and Mattie Lou Jones, born April 19, 1932 in Dooly County, died on March 6, 2010 at his home following a brief illness. He was surrounded by his loving wife of 53 years, Joyce Bridges Jones, daughters Selecia E. Jones and Valerie Jones at the time of his passing. His remaining brothers, William Jones, Rufus Jones and his sister Eloise Mygrant were also present. Our lifelong friends Roxanne, Snooky and Jeff Wallis were with our family during his peaceful passing. Jimmy grew up in Macon County. He worked in Perry at the Colonial Store and Perry Superfoods before moving to Atlanta where he worked for Big Apple Supermarket. In 1965 he moved back to Perry to rear his children. Jimmy worked for Southern Frozen Foods and drove tour buses for Perry Bus Line. He was medically retired in the early seventies. Following his wife’s retirement from Perry High School in 1991, they spent their time developing 37 acres in Peach County along Mossy Creek into gardens filled with splendid azaleas, camellias, day lilies and various other plants. His talents as a Master Gardener transformed this undeveloped land into what he called “The Plantation”. Jimmy is survived by his wife, Joyce Bridges Jones formerly of Perry, daughters Selecia E. Jones of Jacksonville, Fla. and Valerie L. Jones, son-in-law, John O’Hagan Ward of Ajijic, Jalisco, Mexico, brothers and sister, William Jones, Rufus Jones, Eloise Mygrant of Oglethorpe, Aunt Lennie Mae Butterworth of Macon and our family cat, Tom-Tom.
