Houston County Board of Education recently received a certificate of recognition from the Department of Defense for support of its military members.
Eddie Tucker, National Guard Serviceman and graduation coach at Thomson Middle School, presented Superintendent David Carpenter with the certificate.
“We are so thankful for all of the veterans who serve, or have served, our country in the armed forces,” Carpenter said.  “We are proud that many veterans, like Mr. Tucker, choose to work for our school system.  We appreciate both their service to Houston County as well as their service to our country.”
The certificate reads:
“The National Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve recognizes David Carpenter, Houston County Board of Education, as a Patriotic Employer for contributing to national security and protecting liberty and freedom by supporting employee participation in America’s National Guard and Reserve Force.”
Tucker left work as a teacher at Feagin Mill Middle School in 2003 to serve in Noble Eagle and Operation Enduring Freedom. He has served in the Guard for 21 years and worked in the Houston County School System for 11 years.
“I thank Carpenter and the Board for allowing me the opportunity to do something like this,” Tucker said. “The Board’s support does not go unnoticed or unappreciated.  It is my pleasure to serve and be a part of the best county, state and country.”
