By KRYSTAL RINER Managing Editor Nearly 20 people turned out for Monday nights planning and zoning meeting. Over the past few months efforts have been put into making a plan for the future land use of Swift Street and Houston Lake Road. In Mondays meeting the commission presented the map to the group of citizens and explained each area and the impact it could eventually have. The commission split the area into five different zoning types: Residential, government/institutional, commercial, office commercial, park/ open space. “ Remember this is for future planning reasons alone, you can continue to use your property in the current manner that you are,” Director of Community Development Mike Beecham said. According to chairman Martin Beeland, this plan is so that in the future if a business wants to come in and develop an area they have a set plan to show interested parties areas in which they can build. A recommendation from a concerned citizen about the area by the bus barn zoned to be office commercial in the future was taken into consideration by the commission. A motion was made to zone that park or open space. This proposal has to go before city council in April.
