The Lake Joy Elementary School Chorus will perform the National Anthem at the Atlanta 200 NASCAR Truck Series Race on Saturday.
The 200-member chorus of students in grades 3 -5 will sing prior to the beginning of the race, at 1:30 p.m. at Atlanta Motor Speedway. The race begins at 2:00 p.m. and will be televised by the Speed Channel.
Bobby Helms, choral director at Lake Joy Elementary,
said the school was informed by Atlanta Motor Speedway about the selection about a week ago.
“It is an honor for the Lake Joy Elementary Chorus to be selected to perform the National Anthem at this NASCAR event,” Helms said. “Our students are extremely excited about this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. The chorus members have spent many hours in rehearsal in order to represent Lake Joy and Houston County with excellence.”
The kids will perform the song on the start-finish line of the track and stay to watch the race.
