By WES REYNOLDS Journal Staff writer An environmental assessment for land in Warner Robins currently designated to occupy the Georgia-Robins Aerospace Maintenance Partnership may cost less than $200,000, according to a contractor who addressed city council. Donald Jarzynka, a logistics consultant, told Warner Robins City Council Tuesday that in order to have the assessment ahead of schedule, quotes for the study are being accepted in order to get a head start. The assessment includes tests for air, noise and other ecological factors. “This assessment is vital to see we’re in compliance and we get a clean slate to start clearing dirt,” Jarzynka said. “After that we’re good to go.” The next step will be to get permission from the Air Force Materiel Command to begin the project. G-RAMP is expected to bring millions of dollars into the city and therefore a major issue in proper development and site preparation. The city sent out letters last year to surrounding jurisdictions asking for help in affording the cost of the assessment because the surrounding areas also stand to benefit from the project. At Tuesday’s meeting council also discussed different ways to finance the new law enforcement center. Avenues covered included: using money from the city’s general fund, a special purpose local option sales tax in 2012, purchasing the building through an installment plan and the use of revenue bonds.
