By CHARLOTTE PERKINS Journal Staff Writer For those who want a ringside seat to watch Perry’s leaders discuss this year’s budget, the time of the next work session has been changed from Monday, Feb. 15, which is President’s Day, to Thursday, Feb. 11 at 5 p.m. All work sessions, as well as regular meetings, are open to the public. Work sessions are held in the upstairs council room. At Tuesday’s regular council meeting, the big news was the appointing and reappointment of a host of people to city boards, commissions and authorities. Some appointments were made by Mayor Jimmy Faircloth, some by the council as a whole, and some by individual council members. Faircloth and members of council agreed to postpone making appointments to the Perry Beautification Commission until they have a meeting to define the goals of that organization more specifically. Here are the appointments now in effect: Convention & Visitors Bureau Authority Mayor Faircloth, with council approval, appointed former Mayor Jim Worrall and Bob Lawson to the Perry Area Convention & Visitors Bureau. Another appointment will be announced later. Continuing to serve are Steve Giles, Danny Patel, Glen Starlnecker, Maggie Lunsford and Jeanette Arrington. Board of Adjustments and Appeals To four year terms on the city’s Board of Adjustments and Appeals: Rodney Smith, appointed by Mayor Faircloth; Cassandra R. Cassie, appointed by Council Member Phyllis Bynum-Grace; Jack Smith II, appointed by Council Member Joe Posey; Bill O’Neal, appointed by Council Member Randall Walker; Keith Seamon, appointed by Councilmember Riley Hunt; Willie C. Davis, appointed by Council Member Willie King, and Dave Cyr, previously appointed by Council Member James Moore. Perry-Houston Airport Authority Joe R. Collins, Marshall Parker and Bill Lavender were appointed by the City Council. Mayor Faircloth appointed William R. Jerles, Jr. to serve as his official representative on the Perry-Houston Airport Authority, which also includes Houston County representatives Danny Wilson and Art McDonald, and County Commission Chairman Ned Sanders. Perry Planning Commission Mayor Faircloth appointed Peggie Willams to the Planning Commission. Council Member Phyllis Bynum-Grace reappointed Patricia Jefferson. Council Member Joe Posey appointed Steve Green. Council Member Randall Walker appointed Jim Mehserle. Also serving are Lawrence Clarington, appointed by Council Member Willie King, Todd Barker, appointed formerly by Council Member James Moore, and Martin Beeland, Chairman, appointed by Council Member Riley Hunt. Recreation Commission Mayor Faircloth reappointed Michelle Lee. Also serving are Ben Robinson, Jerome Smith, Tony Holder, Vernon Lane, Kirkland Smith and Bud Patel. Downtown Development Authority Mayor Faircloth appointed Ann Adams, and Council Member Randall Walker appointed Bryan Fountain. Continuing to serve will be Davis Cosey, Carl Lumpkin, Pearlie Dixon and Kim Mullins. In other business, the Council voted unanimously to deny a petition for rezoning and annexation related to a proposed convenience store to be built near several subdivisions at a location on Highway 41 North. The Planning Commission had recommended denying the request, which was made by William Hudson. Several citizens living in the area spoke in objection to the plan, and none spoke in support.
