By WES REYNOLDS Journal Staff Writer A Warner Robins man was apprehended Thursday afternoon after a traffic stop resulted in an attempt to flee from officers. Stephon Wilson, 26, was stopped by law enforcement at the 600 block of Greenbriar Road. According to reports, the officer who initiated the stop detected an odor of marijuana after approaching the vehicle. When a narcotic canine alerted to the presence of drugs in the vehicle, Wilson hit the gas, nearly striking the canine officer and his drug dog, before fleeing down North Houston Road. Wilson was pursued onto Woodlawn Avenue and Dennis Drive where his vehicle ran into a fence. The suspect was taken into custody after a brief struggle. According to Tabitha Pugh, public information officer for the Warner Robins Police Department, a large quantity of marijuana was seized in the incident. Wilson is being charged with the following: Traffic Charges: Failure to stop at a stop sign, attempting to elude (felony), reckless driving, improper use of a central turning lane, failure to report accident damage, driving on the wrong side of the road, duty upon striking a fixed object and leaving the scene of an accident. Criminal Charges: Aggravated assault on Police K9, aggravated assault on a peace officer, possession with intent, possession with intent within 1000 feet of a school, possession with intent within 1000 feet of a church, obstruction of an officer and second degree felony criminal damage to property.
